2026 Open Day at Tidcombe Fen SSSI
Visit a stunning Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) nestled on the edge of Tiverton. Tidcombe Fen was designated as an SSSI in 1988 as a good example of a type of wetland fen habitat that is now nationally scarce and rare in Devon. The 10.7 hectare site occupies the shallow valley of the Ailsa Brook, a tributary of the River Lowman. The soils are waterlogged throughout the site, supporting fen meadow vegetation.
Please wear appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear and bring waterproof clothing. Given the wet and uneven ground and long damp vegetation, walking boots / welly boots are strongly advised throughout the year. The team will provide a health and safety briefing and bring a first aid kit. Location = what3words.com/hurry.purely.petal
