Cullompton Autumn Festival – Connecting the Culm
Playing to understand how 'leaky dams' slow the flow
We were delighted to take part in the Cullompton Autumn Festival on 11th October, engaging with around 150–200 community members. The event provided an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about the Connecting the Culm project and highlight nature-based solutions for managing flooding and drought.
Visitors of all ages enjoyed hands-on activities, from building mini leaky dams to explore how water flow can be managed, to creating festival fish celebrating the rich biodiversity of the River Culm. The festival also offered invaluable opportunities to connect with landowners, farmers, teachers, families, and community members, fostering conversations about the river and its future.
Overall, it was a successful day of learning, sharing and celebrating the River Culm, strengthening community engagement and promoting awareness of climate change adaptation.
