Forum for Community Climate Action image

Forum for Community Climate Action

We initiated a climate forum in July, which grew from themed conversations with key stakeholder groups, centred around our Climate Change Strategy. We looked at some of the positive projects happening here in Mid Devon communities, discussed how to build on those, and initiated ideas for partnership working and new schemes.

The Council's Climate Change Strategy 2024-2028 is a springboard to community engagement and the authority sees partnership working as the way forward. There are brilliant people in Mid Devon who lead inspiring and projects in a way that the Council just can't. So... how can we work together?

The Forum built on meetings earlier in the year with leading groups such as Sustainable Crediton and Sustainable Tiverton, followed by themed conversations around our Climate Change Strategy, and the Forum brought those strands together. The aim was to look at some of the positive projects happening here in Mid Devon communities, discuss how to build on those, and initiate ideas for partnership working and new schemes.

The Climate Change Strategy has five themes:

  • Vibrant landscapes at the heart of Devon
  • Climate Resilient Communities
  • Healthy Homes
  • Green Growth and Bright Futures
  • Sustainable Services and Spending

This process continues. This is what was set out in the Strategy - in the words of Councillor Natasha Bradshaw, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change:

"To realise progress for the whole of Mid Devon, we must work in partnership, learn from those leading change, and support those who need help. Together we can co-create community climate action planning to cut greenhouse gas emissions for the district and adapt to build resilience in the face of the climate change already happening. Can you help create a vision for a sustainable future?"

Please let us know if you’re keen to work with us (or other partners) on community schemes or wish to be kept updated with progress.
