Culm Valley Sports Centre and Moorhayes Community Centre now have their own vending outlets that offer locally sourced milk.

Customers can purchase fresh pasteurised, non-homogenised whole milk, choose from a variety of syrup flavours to make milkshakes onsite as well as buy reusable glass and plastic bottles.

Both self-serve stations in Tiverton and Cullompton are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week meaning you can easily pick up your fresh milk or favourite milkshake at any time, night or day.

Stokehouse Farm Dairy’s herd of 80 jersey and jersey cross cows are milked once a day at the family-run farm in Bradninch. The milk from the herd is pasteurised gently on the farm, then cooled and transferred to the vending machines.

These outlets provide an environmentally friendly alternative to most supermarket-bought milks with the farm being just eight-miles from the community centre and half of that distance from the Culm Valley Sports centre, ensuring minimal food miles. The reusable nature of the bottles and the refill machines also means a reduction in waste.

Local sustainable projects like this form a small part of the Council’s focus for sustainability across Mid Devon - supporting people seeking to lead a more ‘local’ life; living, working, eating, shopping and spending locally as set out within the Councils Corporate Plan.

Jason Ball, Climate and Sustainability Specialist at MDDC said:

“This is a great outlet for the community to try locally-sourced produce. Cutting down on food miles is a great way we can all help the environment.”
